With the success of the 2009 reunion behind us and looking forward to our 50th Reunion in 2015, the reunion committee thought it would be fun to have an interim gathering to celebrate the Class of '65 turning 65 this year.  A fun-filled birthday celebration is being planned for Columbus Day Weekend (Oct 5-7, 2012).  We are close to finalizing details, but need your input to move ahead with deposits for securing hotel room rates and venues, which require contractual obligations.

The 65@65 Birthday Bash will be a totally casual weekend, allowing time for renewing friendships and revitalizing class spirit in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

The weekend will include:
  • A fun mix 'n' mingle on Friday night (most likely at the Holiday Inn, Mt. Kisco)

  • A Saturday afternoon-into-evening event in a large lodge (not an open pavilion) at Croton Point Park (to include:  food, drinks, fireplace, indoor/outdoor games, music, and activities).

  • A concluding breakfast on Sunday (most likely at the Holiday Inn)
At this time, it is essential for us to get an idea of how many people are planning to attend. Please contact Linda White Alexander ASAP (lindaalexander4@comcast.net  or 973-543-6969) and let her know the following:
  • Do you plan to attend the 65@65 Birthday Bash?   YES   NO   MAYBE
  • If you attend, will you be bringing a spouse or significant other with you? (Requesting info for general planning purposes only... not a final commitment.)
  • Will you need a hotel room for Friday and/or Saturday nights? (No commitment now, just for planning.)  The price we have been quoted is $139/night + tax, if we commit to holding a function at the hotel (Friday night mix 'n' mingle and Sunday breakfast).

Thanks to the tireless efforts of David Perugini and many Reunion Committee members, our 2009 reunion was a huge success because we were able to find and contact a large number of classmates through the Internet.  The connections made at that time (through emails and phone calls) were very special to both attendees and those who weren't able to attend.  Since that time, we have "found" more classmates and look forward to including them in this special event and in future reunions.

If you have any questions or need more information, don't hesitate to contact Linda.

Looking forward to hearing from you and hope to see you in October!!

     Warmest regards,
     Pook, Linda, David, and Mike

We Mourn the Passing of Lisa Riker Turner

With great sadness I received news of Lisa's passing in an email from her daughter, Jennifer, today.  Early last month, a message from Jennifer was included in a Class News update and, as a result, several classmates made contact with Lisa.  Thanks to all who made contact and to all who kept Lisa in their thoughts and prayers.  Below is the message from Jennifer.  A second message from Jennifer with a link to a memorial website for Lisa has also been added below.

My mom peacefully passed away with my sister and myself by her side at 12:15 am today.

She knew she had the love and support of all her OHS classmates as well many friends and family.

I'll be sure to keep everyone posted about the celebration of life planned for  her in the coming weeks.

Thanks again for your care and concern during these trying times. I feel privileged to have made such wonderful connections with my mom's awesome friends!

I encourage anyone who would like to share a memory to visit this site.
Thanks again for the amazing outpouring of love, thoughts and prayers shared with my mom and our family since her diagnosis in 2010.

Ken and Beth Foyder Visit Arizona

L to R: Pook and Phil Bellini, Sue and Bill Bruni, Ken and Beth Foyder
Ken and Beth Foyder made a trip to Arizona to visit Ken's aunt and cousins, who he hadn't seen in 50 years and to spend some time in beautiful Sedona, AZ.  As it turns out, Ken's cousin lives around the block from Pook, so it was a perfect opportunity for a little OHS gathering.  The Bellinis, the Brunis, and the Foyders enjoyed great conversation over dinner and shared lots of fond memories of our Ossining years.

Medicare, here we come!

In celebration of the Class of '65 turning 65 (65@65), the reunion committee has been giving thought to having a birthday celebration... not quite a full-blown formal reunion, but a fun bash, none the less!

While the local Ossining crowd have enjoyed several pow-wows since our last reunion in 2009 and will continue to have more of these mini-reunions, this birthday bash will be our only major event before our 50th reunion in 2015.

We're looking at Columbus Day Weekend (October 5-7) and are hoping to have it at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Kisco again.  We've already made contact with the HI and are waiting to see how many of us they can accommodate that weekend.

Before we commit to having this event, we need to know if there is sufficient interest to move ahead.  So, please email Linda White Alexander (lindaalexander4@comcast.net) by Monday, March 12th and let us know if you'd be interested or not.  Here are your options:
  • Yes!  I'll definitely come!  (God willing!)
  • Sounds great!  Hope I can make it.  Not sure yet.
  • Dang!  I'd love to attend, but I have another event that weekend.
  • No, I'm not interested in attending.  Bah!  Humbug!
Copy and paste your answer (or any message you want) in your email to Linda.

We Mourn the Passing of Tina Gulland, Wife of Gene Gulland

With sadness I report the passing of Gene Gulland's wife, Tina, this past May. Thanks to Howard Young for passing along the information... I contacted Gene today and received the following note along with this article from the Washington Post.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, Gene.
- Pook

"It's been a terrible blow to my kids and me, but we're getting by-- and you're right, the wonderful memories help.   Attached is Tina's Washington Post obituary, which can only begin to suggest what a force of nature she was!"
